Public Briefing Session on the 2019 Hong Kong Wind Code
The Code of Practice on Wind Effects in Hong Kong 2019 (the 2019 Code) and its Explanatory Note (EN) were published in September 2019. It is a new development and an essential application of wind design in Hong Kong.
Our key HKWES members from Arup, the leading drafting consultant of the 2019 Code under a consultancy commissioned by the Buildings Department (BD), actively promoted the post-drafting stage knowledge dissemination to the whole industry. Within the grace period between Oct 2019 and Mar 2021, under the organization of BD, they had delivered one on-site (Jan 2020) and two online public briefing sessions (Sep 2020 and Mar 2021), with attendants of around 100, 1000+ and 500 respectively, in which the responses for the two online sessions were described as overwhelming. The third briefing session was also recorded and uploaded to BD website (e-learning centre) for continuous learning purpose by the public.

Looking forward, our key HKWES members are also supporting the HKIE Structural Division on preparation the new Wind Load Handbook. We will report the progress when the relevant information is available.
