Dr. Deng Xiaowei Won Awards from CSC and Chongqing City Respectively

Dr. Xiaowei Deng of HKWES received “Technological Innovation Award” for energy harvesting of the wind farm in complex environments from China Steel Construction Society with mainland collaborators in 2023. This project has formed key technologies for wind resource assessment, layout optimization and yaw control research of wind farms in complex environments. The efficient utilization of wind resources and low-cost development in complex environments are realized. It also fills the research gaps,  promotes the development of the wind power industry, and brings in visible economic and social impacts.

In parallel, in collaboration with mainland universities and CSSC Haizhuang, Dr. Deng was also awarded the “First Class of Science and Technology Progress Award of Chongqing” (Provincial and ministerial level) for their achievements in the comprehensive studies of wind turbine towers, including the refined and efficient fluid-solid coupling analysis theory of the tapered steel structure tower and the performance of the tapered steel structure tower under the combined compression-bending-shear-torsion loading.

The tapered steel structure tower is the most important structural form to support the wind turbine, and it is of great significance to ensure the power generation and the safety of the unit equipment. Aiming at the key scientific and technical problems of the tapered steel structure tower, the project team innovatively established the load refinement analysis theory and calculation method of the tapered steel structure tower, and proposed the performance analysis theory and efficient design method of the tapered steel structure tower, developed efficient non-destructive monitoring technology and defect diagnosis technology for tapered steel structure towers, formed mechanical analysis theory and associated key techniques for tapered steel structure towers, and had more than 80 wind power projects applications in China.
